A wet 1996 interval at Dadar’s Shalimar Talkies left a cash tin missing and four imperfect accounts.
REPORT: Dadar, 1996 — The interval at Shalimar Talkies should have been the quietest part of the evening for the booking desk. Instead, when the grilled box-office window reopened on a wet Friday, the advance-booking cash tin had gone missing. A leak threatened the hand-painted lobby hoardings, the rear fuse kept failing, and latecomers crowded the balcony staircase while the projection booth reported trouble with a fan belt. Nalin Korgaonkar, Farida Sheikh, Suresh More and Asha Kadam were redirected through the single-screen cinema, with a duplicate key ring, hand torch, paste brush and ticket punch in circulation. Two interval accounts were recorded, exactly one was trusted, and the cashier is not volunteering which. The evening show went on, as shows do; the ledger did not. The desk adds one line for the record: the false claim in the signed statements came from the very person this enquiry wants.
